Since the launch of The West Kent Emergency Fund, West Kent Freemasons are proud to have supported a wide variety of initiatives.

As per my previous releases you will note that this fund has been running since the first week of April. During this time the following groups and individuals have been – or are currently being – assisted to continue their marvellous work in the community during these troubled times.

We have given £1000 each to the Bexley Food Bank, Swanley Food Bank, Bromley Borough Food Bank and Nourish Community Food Bank in Tunbridge Wells. This has been most gratefully received and is being applied to those who need it.

Ellenor Hospice has significantly increased the number of their terminal patients in order to free up NHS beds. To achieve this, the hospice is having to employ bank nurses. As fund raising events have had to be cancelled the hospice is in need of urgent additional funding to enable them to provide much needed services. We are pleased to be making a donation of £2,000 and hope to follow this with a further £2000.

Lifelites is a charity which gives life-limited and disabled children reliant on hospice care services opportunities they wouldn’t otherwise enjoy through the magic of assistive technology. Our donation of £1000 is to provide specialist assistive technology packages to children and young people at Demelza Children’s Hospice and Ellenor Hospice and again it is hoped that a further donation of £1000 will follow.

Meanwhile more people are making PPE and we are supporting this by donating the cost of the raw materials where we can. One such is Mr Billy Collins of “Taking the Pixels” who has been making Face protection to safeguard our frontline NHS staff. He has donated his masks to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Royal Stoke University Hospital, and Greenwich District Nurses. Our grant of £300 will assist the purchase of raw materials to allow him to continue this work.

Mr. Mark Estaugh, Provincial Grand Master of West Kent Freemasons, said:

“West Kent Freemasons are once again in the forefront of the fight against Covid 19 and we will continue to assist wherever and whenever we can at this critical time.”
