Kent Museum of Freemasonry

The Kent Museum of Freemasonry, was opened in April 1933 and has developed over the 88 years by the Freemasons in Kent. Open to all and located in the heart of Canterbury’s tourist route, you will find the Kent Museum of Freemasonry close to the Westgate Towers and a five minute stroll from the Cathedral.

Entrance is free of charge, although voluntary donations are welcomed.

It is an Arts Council Accredited Museum, meeting the nationally agreed standards of the Arts Council on collection care, museum management and the provision of information and services to visitors.

The museum is a hidden treasure which boasts a rare collection of exhibits of national and international importance.  Our collection of Masonic material is possibly the finest in the UK outside of London.  The vast collection of regalia and books covers all Masonic orders through the ages.

The purpose of the Association of Patrons is to support the Kent Museum of Freemasonry Trust, financially in any way that it can and to consistently help to raise its profile, both internally with Freemasons and externally across all sections of society in Kent and beyond simply, to Preserve the past, Engage the present & Secure the future.

To do this it needs your support. Despite every member of staff volunteering their time, it costs at least £18,000 a year just to open and maintain the Museum and its extensive Library. Entrance is free and we wish to retain this openness and accessibility to all.  This is where you can help by becoming a patron. Not only will you be helping a worthy cause but you will also gain from the benefits of your membership.

Applications are invited from lodges, chapters, other orders and most importantly, individuals. You need not be a Freemason, just someone who has an interest in preserving the Museum & Library from a Masonic or anthropological perspective.

Annual membership is available from only £25.00 and includes benefits such as:

  • VIP invitations to the Museum for guided talks and tours
  • A regular free newsletter
  • Early notification of special events
  • Exclusive lapel pin for individual patrons

For lodges and chapters their annual membership will be £75 and £50 respectively and a certificate will be issued to the unit and their support can be highlighted on the front of their summons indicating they are Patrons of this very local masonic charity, along with no doubt other masonic charities they support.
