On Friday, 10 January, the first external charity presentation of the year took place. The Provincial Charity Steward, W.Bro Steve Rozier, along with W.Bros Dave Stock and Kieron Lockyer from the Provincial Charity Committee, attended one of Age UK Maidstone, Sevenoaks, and Tonbridge’s premises. There, they met with Kate Barnes (pictured third from the left), the Fundraising Manager, and Louise MacPherson (pictured first from the left), the CEO, to formally present the charity with four tablets purchased by the Province.

Age UK’s outreach workers, who often work alone, visit service users in their homes, where they are required to take extensive notes and maintain records. The tablets eliminate the need for paper records, allowing data to be transferred immediately and securely. This process not only saves valuable time that can be redirected to other tasks but also enhances the safety of outreach workers. With the ability to track when workers have safely left premises, the tablets provide additional security for those working alone, as they visit locations without prior knowledge of the circumstances they may encounter.

The tablets, as shown in the photograph, clearly display the West Kent logo.

In addition to the tablet donation, the charity team also presented activity books designed by their colleagues in Essex. These books are intended to stimulate cognitive activity among service users.

Age UK Maidstone, Sevenoaks, and Tonbridge offer a free, confidential information and advice service for older people, their families, and carers in the Sevenoaks and Tonbridge areas, with plans to extend this service to Maidstone in the near future.

Kate Barnes provided the following information about the charity’s services, which are available to those in the West Kent area:

Welfare Benefits Advice: For those over retirement age, helping identify and calculate benefits and assisting with claim form completion.

Care and Support: Guidance on accessing social services and advice on funding care and support.

Housing Advice: Information on maintaining properties and options for older people who may need additional support or wish to move closer to family and friends.

Local Services and Activities: Advice on available services, support groups, activities, and concessions in the local area.

Financial Assistance: Support for individuals struggling to make ends meet or pay bills.

The Information and Advice team works across the Sevenoaks and Tonbridge areas, with services accessible in the following ways:

Phone: 01732 336100 (Monday – Thursday, 9 am – 4 pm, with an answerphone service outside of these hours and on Bank Holidays).

Email: office@ageukmst.org.uk

In Person: At the Tonbridge office or through outreach appointments.

Home Visits: The service can also arrange visits to individuals at their homes.

As we all grow older, so do our loved ones, and Age UK has provided invaluable support to many individuals in the past. Brethren can take great pride in the positive impact they continue to make in their communities through their charitable contributions.

In the face of adverse weather today caused by ‘Storm Darragh’, members of Radiant Star Lodge 8967, based at Dartford Masonic Centre. Met for the regular breakfast club at the Rising Sun Harvesters, Dartford. Members of ‘Band of Brothers’ Widows sons also attended. Accompanying the brethren was Housing Manager Tracey Hinton from North Kent Mind.

Following Radiant Star’s Annual Black tie event in November, which raised £1000 donated to North Kent Mind. The Charity Representatives mentioned their Christmas campaign to hand out toiletries and clothing to the homeless and of no fixed abode in the Dartford area.

The Brethren of both Radiant Star Lodge and Band of Brothers agreed to support this campaign and collected enough toiletries, hats, gloves, scarves, socks and other clothing items to make North Kent Mind’s aspiration this Christmas a reality. So in a windy, wet car park, the brethren handed over all the items collected to the Mind’s Representative, who were delighted and very thankful for the continuing support Radiant Star Lodge and Band of Brothers demonstrated to positively make a difference to local persons in need and supporting a local charity in need also. At breakfast, the brethren also managed to raise £40 towards ongoing charitable endeavours.

Charity is one of the key values of Freemasonry, well done to both members of Radiant Star and Band of Brothers.

The Province of West Kent Freemasons donated funds to enable the hospital to purchase much-needed sensory and other items thus enabling Justine and her colleagues to continue their invaluable work in assisting the children’s recovery. We also took the opportunity to donate a selection of colouring books to provide an alternative interest for the children. A selection of sensory items and books can be seen in the pictures.

The annual fireworks event in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, was held in the beautiful Dunorlan Park, with its main lake serving as the stunning backdrop to an amazing fireworks display. A large crowd from the local area came to enjoy a spectacular evening, and with fair weather, a bigger-than-usual turnout gathered to celebrate.

Tunbridge Wells Round Table organised a fantastic event, supported by West Kent Freemasons from several lodges, including “Tonbridge Lodge” and “Holmesdale Lodge”, who assisted as marshals. With “West Kent Freemasons” and “MCF” logos prominently displayed on their high-visibility vests, the team of 10 Masons helped with crowd control, safety, the sale of glow sticks and more.

Throughout the evening, several Freemasons engaged in conversations about Freemasonry, with many attendees showing interest and asking questions. One mother of two remarked, “Great to see you chaps at the event,” while another attendee said, “Well done, Freemasons!”

Everyone had a fantastic time, including the brilliant Round Table team that organised the event, with many expressing thanks to the West Kent Freemasons for their support.

All profits from the event will benefit a variety of local charities, demonstrating how organisations can come together to make a difference in the community.

Local Freemasons have also been able to support Masonic charities like the “TLC Teddy Appeal,” which donates teddy bears to local hospitals for young children who need comfort while receiving care in A&E departments.

The dedication of all the organisations working together at large community events ensures everyone stays safe and has a great time — a true example of Freemasonry in the community.

The Association of Friends, Prince George Duke of Kent Court, Chislehurst held a a very successful Firework Display on 5th November for the Residents and their relatives.

The event was Sponsored by the Province of West Kent and Worshipful Brother Steve Rozier, the Provincial Grand Charity Steward was in attendance to represent the Province.

He also presented a large number of Colouring Books, which had been donated by our Essex Freemasons colleagues in conjunction with the RMBI and the MCF, for the residents suffering with Dementia.

These booklets are a great asset in assisting with the cognitive powers of the residents who use them.

Our photograph shows West Kent Member Steve together with, Samantha, Fiona and Heidi, staff members of the administration team at the home.
