Role of Royal Arch Almoner

The role of the Almoner in Royal Arch Chapters differs fundamentally to that in our Lodges.

The Royal Arch Almoner is the Chapter contact who naturally maintains links with his Companions but in particular keeps in touch with those who do not regularly attend meetings. It has been suggested that rather than report apologies at our convocations we should report those who have not apologised, as it is those who we should be most concerned with. It is the vital role of the Chapter Almoner to keep in contact with all those Companions who do not attend convocations and encourage them to attend when possible so that they do not drift away. Chapters where this has been operating properly have seen a marked improvement in attendance levels and good retention levels for new Exaltees.

The Almoner should, of course, be aware of Companions in difficulty and should liase with the appropriate Lodge Almoner to ensure that correct support is available where required, but primarily he is the front line in our retention policy and a vital officer in every Chapter.
