As outlined in my address to the Brethren following my Installation on 20 October, I promised that communication would be a priority within the Province, and undertook to appoint a West Kent member with specialist skills in this area.
Today, I have asked Bro Jim O’Donnell to become Provincial Head of Communications. He will report to me directly and, given the importance I attach to this area, will be part of the Provincial Executive.
Jim is a communications specialist, with over thirty years’ experience in the public sector. He has served in a number of Government Departments, Next Steps Agencies, and NDPBs, including a post as a Minister’s Private Secretary. His last two roles before retirement were as Head of Communications for The Rent Service (a DWP Agency), and Head of Internal Communication at the Metropolitan Police – where he led a multi-award winning team, including seeing one of his products announced as “Best Internal Communication Magazine” by the stakeholder relations publication “Communicate”.
Jim has a Post Graduate Diploma in Internal Communications Management, and a MA in Human Resources Management – Strategy and Change.
He will be assisted in this post by a Communication Team, the members of which will each manage a dedicated section of our future Provincial Communication Strategy.
There is much to do in this area, and we will approach it in a systematic way, taking into account the needs of everybody in the Province.
