Civic Parade

by | Jul 12, 2017

On Sunday 25th June 2017, seven West Kent Freemasons joined the Civic Parade to welcome the new Mayor into the London Borough of Bexley.
The Worshipful The Mayor Councillor Peter Reader is a member of the Masonic Province of West Kent and in his welcome at Christ Church he thanked the members of the Province for their support for his chosen Charity in his year of office; Parkinson’s UK, Bexley and Dartford Branch.
The Mayor has also agreed to support the Province of West Kent Literacy Award Scheme. The scheme is encouraging school children within the Borough to enjoy reading.
The parade left the Civic Centre and proceeded through Bexley Town Centre for a service in Christ Church. They then paraded back to the Clock Tower, where the Mayor thanked everyone for their attendance. The assembled party then sang a rousing rendition of Land of Hope and Glory and other well-liked songs. They then returned in procession to the Civic Centre.
This was the first time in over 30 years that members of the Province of West Kent have paraded in public wearing full regalia.
Having obtained the permission of Grand Lodge to take part, the Provincial Grand Master had invited eight members to join him and he thanked them for their support.
It is now his wish that Brethren will give their full support to other parades within the Province, which he will announce in the coming months.
